A Small Change Can Make a Big Difference

Sometimes, improving accessibility at home doesn’t require a major renovation.

Mobility Construction recently received a call from a family whose loved one had returned home using a wider wheelchair, but could no longer fit comfortably through a doorway.

Rather than replacing or widening the entire door frame, we installed offset door hinges, creating approximately 2 additional inches of clear doorway space.

How does it work? Unlike standard hinges, which allow the open door to extend partially into the doorway, offset hinges swing the door completely out of the opening. That extra space can make it easier and safer for someone using a wheelchair or mobility device to get through.

One simple modification made a meaningful difference in access and independence.
